The best time of year for a padel holiday in Mallorca
Short answer: April to June, and September to October. Longer answer below, with the numbers.
How to read the numbers
The table at the bottom of this page shows long-term monthly averages for Palma: the daytime high, the night-time low and the sea temperature. Two things sit behind it. Mallorca averages more than 300 days of sunshine a year, so a wet week is unlucky rather than likely. And the island is one hour ahead of the UK, which means no jet lag and an evening session that finishes in daylight for most of the year.
Read the daytime high as the padel number. Anything from 18°C to 26°C is three-sessions-a-day weather. Above 28°C, the middle of the day belongs to the pool and the courts come alive again under the lights.
Spring (March to May)
The island is green, the almond blossom has just gone and the courts are quiet. The average daytime high climbs from 18°C in March to 24°C in May, with cool mornings and evenings that call for a light layer. This is the season for volume: a morning block, an afternoon block and a floodlit session if your legs allow.
The sea is the catch. It sits at 14°C to 17°C until late May, so plan boat days and beach clubs for the scenery and save the swimming for the pool. Off the court, spring is the time for the Tramuntana: the mountain road to Sa Calobra, a long lunch in Sóller under the orange trees, a walk to a cove that will be busy by July.
Hotels and fincas are easy to find in March and early April, then fill quickly from Easter. May is the first month where the good fincas go early, so a group that wants a house with a pool should be booked by February.
Summer (June to August)
Hot. Average highs run from 29°C in June to 32°C in August, and the sea climbs from 21°C to 26°C, which is the reason half of northern Europe is here. Padel moves to the edges of the day: a session at nine, then the water, then a session at seven under the lights and dinner at ten. It works, and the evening atmosphere at the clubs is the best of the year.
This is the season for padel and nightlife weekends in Palma, for boat days to a cala you cannot reach by road, and for beach clubs along the bay. It is also the busiest: flights are dearer, hotels are full and the drive to the beach takes longer than it should. If your group can only do summer, book early and stay somewhere with a pool and a court nearby, so the heat is a feature rather than a problem.
Autumn (September to November)
September is our favourite month. It is still summer, with an average high of 28°C and a sea at 24°C, but the August crowds have gone home and the courts breathe again. October stays warm at 24°C with a sea still at 22°C, and the island feels like it belongs to the people who live here. November is a mild 19°C, which counts as a heatwave in Manchester, with the odd rainy day to remind you it is autumn.
For a coaching week this is the sweet spot: warm enough to play all day, cool enough to concentrate. Padel coaching holidays with professional players book out first in September and October, so if that is the plan, it is a spring decision rather than a summer one.
Winter (December to February)
Mild, with daytime highs around 15°C to 16°C and the occasional wet week. Perfectly playable, often gloriously sunny, and the flights are the cheapest of the year. Bring a layer for the evening sessions and expect a quieter island: some beach businesses close, restaurants in the resorts shut for the season, and Palma carries on as a proper city.
It is not the season for boat days, but it is a fine season for a finca with a private chef: a fire in the evening, long dinners and a full day on court while the UK has its coat on.
When to book, honestly
May, June, September and October go first, for hotels, fincas and coaches alike. A group of eight wants to be booked three months ahead for those months; a group of twelve or more, four. July and August need the same lead time for accommodation, less for courts. Winter and early spring can be arranged at short notice, sometimes within a fortnight.
Whatever the month, fix the dates in the group chat before anything else. Every padel trip that never happens dies at that step, and every one that does starts there.
Which season for which group
A coaching week wants April, May, late September or October: cool enough to think, warm enough to play all day, and the coaches are on the island rather than on tour. A padel-only long weekend works in any month from March to November, as long as the courts are booked before you fly. A stag, hen or big birthday wants the sea, so June to September, with the padel at nine and seven and the boat in between.
A finca week with a chef is the most forgiving: it works in the heat of July, when the pool does the afternoons, and in November, when the terrace does the evenings and the courts are empty. If the group includes people who do not play, September is the safest bet of all: warm sea, quiet roads, everything open, and a coach or a tournament still easy to arrange.
